Four of a Kind: Global Crane Services Takes Delivery of Its Fourth LTM 1650-8.1

We’ve taken delivery of our fourth Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1, further strengthening our fleet. The 700-tonne crane will support heavy-lift operations across both Global Crane Services and Global Wind Projects, contributing to projects in the civils, renewable energy, port, and offshore sectors.

The eight-axle crane recently arrived at our Aberdeen depot, where our operators completed familiarisation training led by Liebherr Great Britain’s training team. Once inductions were complete, the crane went straight into service.

Liebherr’s largest crane on eight axles, the LTM 1650-8.1, features a 54-metre telescopic boom that can be extended to 80 metres, alongside a full 90-metre luffing jib and Y-shaped guying system. This gives a maximum hook height of 152 metres and a working radius of 112 metres, allowing us to tackle both heavier lifts and jobs requiring an extended working range.

The crane is equipped with advanced technologies, including Liebherr’s working-at-height systems, Wind Speed load charts for lifting in varying wind conditions, VarioBallast® for hydraulic ballast radius adjustment, and VarioBase® for increased flexibility and capacity in confined spaces.

Gordon Harper, our General Manager, said: ‘We’re delighted to kick start the year with the delivery of our fourth LTM1650-8.1 which has headed straight out to work. The LTM1650-8.1 is a well proven crane in our fleet and has been pivotal to our success in many wind and heavy lift projects. As we contine to invest in our fleet, two LTM 1250-5.1 cranes are scheduled for delivery later this year.

Gordon added:  In 2025 alone, we welcomed seven mobile cranes ranging from 70 to 250 tonnes, a 50-tonne city crane, and Liebherr’s 1,000th LTM 1090-4.2. Today, we operate over 70 cranes, almost all Liebherr, including two LG 1750s, demonstrating both the versatility of our fleet and our ongoing partnership with Liebherr."
