HGV Mechanic
Job Title: HGV Mechanic
Reports To: Workshop Manager
Location: Bridge of Don, Aberdeen
MAJOR FUNCTIONS
Perform mechanical repairs, preventative maintenance checks and general maintenance to the Company`s fleet of heavy vehicles, trailers, auxiliary equipment and components. Must be able to perform the duties of a rigorous work schedule which includes lifting, loading and unloading, walking, kneeling, crouching, bending and carrying objects.
Primary Objective
To deliver high standards of workmanship and technical competence across all preventatives, general and breakdown maintenance activities, carrying out HGV vehicle servicing and repairs as directed by the Workshop Manager, and ensuring agreed standards are achieved and maintained in a timely manner while upholding effective internal and external communication.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carryout the inspecting, diagnosing faults/defects, testing, dismantling, overhauling, repairing and re-assembling engines, trailers, related equipment and components.
- Carryout preventative maintenance checks, services and general maintenance/repairs of heavy vehicles, trailers, related equipment and components when made available.
- Properly maintain materials, tools and equipment; assist in housekeeping and keeping the mechanical workshop and surrounds tidy.
- Maintain daily records of the plant and equipment; planning and procurement of materials and consumables as required.
- Accurately maintain service records for each HGV vehicle detailing all faults, repairs and or maintenance to equipment.
- Secure necessary materials and parts for the work in good time, ordering/chasing from suppliers if necessary.
- Undertake other duties that management may reasonably request.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Have at least 2 years’ experience working in a similar role within the HGV industry
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Computer literate; competent in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Hold a current valid UK driving license
- Be able to work during out of hour periods (where required)
